High School Hero of the Month

Celebrating Students Who Make a Difference in Our Community

Nominate a High School Hero

Recognizing Students with a $1,500 Scholarship

At EdFed, we celebrate extraordinary students who go above and beyond to give back to our community through volunteerism. Whether serving food at a local food bank, joining a beach clean-up, or volunteering at a local nursing home, high school students are making a positive impact through community service as an integral part of their educational experience.

Now, you can recognize and reward their contributions to our community by nominating a high school student who has completed at least 25 community service hours in the preceding 12 months to be celebrated as EdFed's High School Hero of the Month.

This school year, EdFed is awarding nine students a $1,500 scholarship in recognition of their service to others. The recipients will be selected randomly from a pool of qualified nominations submitted to EdFed. The recipient will be announced live on HITS 97.3 by Morning Radio Host Jade Alexander every month, from September 2024 to May 2025.

The selected recipients will be honored by HITS 97.3 and EdFed with a special celebration at the student's school hosted by Jade Alexander and EdFed's own Eddy the Owl.

Help shine a spotlight on a remarkable student by nominating them as a High School Hero today!

Official Rules

PROMOTION NAME: EdFed's High School Hero Scholarship Official Rules

The Program begins on August 1, 2024 and ends on April 30, 2025.

Nine (9) $1,500 High School Hero Scholarships will be awarded during the 2024-2025 school year, beginning September 2024 through May 2025. The recipients' names will be randomly drawn from a pool of qualified applicants.

ADMINISTRATOR: This Program is administered and funded by Educational Federal Credit Union (EdFed), 7800 SW 117 Ave., Miami, FL 33183.

TO APPLY: Nominations will be accepted from persons at least 13 years old. Nominations must be made via the online submission form on the dedicated landing page on EdFed's website or by visiting www.edfed.org/highschoolhero. Nominations must be complete and accurate to be considered.

ELIGIBILITY: To receive the scholarship award, nominees must be a high school student in Miami-Dade or Broward County with at least 25 logged and confirmed volunteer hours in the previous 12 months. If the nominee is a minor and selected as the recipient, an authorization form must be signed by the parent or legal guardian prior to funds disbursal. Proof of qualification in the form of a current Community Service Volunteer Log, validated by a representative from the student's school, must be provided within 5 school business days following notice of nominee's selection.

RANDOM DRAWING: Complete nomination applications in compliance with the requirements will be assigned numbers internally for the purposes of the drawing. The recipients will be selected from among all eligible applications via a random drawing. Nominations will stay in the candidate pool for the entire calendar year; however, a student may not be selected more than once during the campaign period. The Administrator, whose decisions are final and binding in all matters, will conduct the drawing. Odds of being a recipient depend on the number of eligible applications received. If the potential recipient or person who submitted the nomination fails to complete all required procedures, or if a potential recipient is not in compliance with these Official Rules, then such a person shall be disqualified and an alternate recipient may be selected.

NOTIFICATION: The person who submitted the nomination or the parent/legal guardian of the nominee will be notified by telephone or email. Notification will only be provided to the parent/legal guardian of the nominee or those who submitted the nomination. Non-selected applicants will not be notified.

FUNDING TO RECIPIENT: Funds will be deposited into the recipient's EdFed checking or savings account. If the recipient doesn't have an EdFed account, the funds will be delivered via check. You may receive a 1099 MISC reporting your scholarship. This generally means that a part of your scholarship funds may be taxable depending upon how you spend them. Payments for room and board, for example, are non-eligible expenses and, as such, are taxable. Payments made to cover tuition, fees and course materials are "eligible" and are not reportable on 1099 MISC forms.

RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND PUBLICITY: Photographs of the recipient or nominator may be taken by EdFed for use in EdFed publications and may be released to the news and social media. Recipients must contact EdFed's Marketing Department to have their picture taken or they may submit an appropriate photograph. Scholarship recipients must consent to the use of their name, photographs, likeness, and limited biographical information for publicity and advertising purposes without further compensation, where permitted by law. All nominees and nominators release EdFed, as well as their officers, directors, employees, members, and all others associated with the development and execution of this sweepstakes (collectively, the "Released Parties") from any liability with respect to, or in any way arising from, this scholarship program and/or acceptance or use of the scholarship funds, including liability for personal injury, damages, death, or monetary loss.
